Partial highlights cover the top and sides — the areas that frame your face and catch the most light. They’re the efficient choice: brightness where it counts, at a lower price point, with less time in the chair. Ideal if you want a sun-kissed lift, you’re maintaining existing highlights, or you mostly see your hair from the front.
Full highlights cover your whole head, top to under-layers. Choose full if you want an all-over transformation, you wear your hair up or parted in different ways, or you want to go significantly lighter. It’s the bigger change and it reads from every angle.

How foils compare to balayage
People often ask whether they want foils or balayage. Quick version:
Foils give you precise, uniform brightness with more contrast and lift — great for classic highlights, going notably lighter, and consistent results throughout.
Balayage is hand-painted and softer, with a more gradual, natural grow-out and less regrowth maintenance.
They’re not mutually exclusive — some of our favorite looks combine foiled brightness up top with painted ends. If you’re torn, bring photos of what you like to your consultation and we’ll tell you honestly which technique gets you there.
Making highlights last
Highlighted hair — especially lifted blonde — needs a little care to stay beautiful:
Use purple shampoo once or twice a week to keep brassiness and yellow tones at bay. Wash with sulfate-free, color-safe products in cooler water. Use heat protectant every time you style, since lightened hair is more vulnerable to heat. And book a gloss or toner every few weeks between full services — it refreshes your tone, adds shine, and stretches the time between foil appointments.
Most clients come back for a full highlight every 8–12 weeks, with a root touch-up or gloss in between as needed.

How long do highlights take?
A partial runs about 1.5–2 hours; a full highlight 2–3 hours, depending on length and thickness. Adding a cut or gloss adds time. We’ll give you an estimate when you book.
How often should I get highlights redone?
Most clients do a full highlight every 8–12 weeks. Because highlights blend as they grow (no hard line like all-over color), you can often stretch them longer than a single-process color.
Will highlights damage my hair?
Highlighting involves lightener, so there’s some processing — but done by a trained colorist with the right products and timing, healthy hair handles it well. We assess your hair’s condition first and won’t push it past what it can take. If your hair’s already compromised, we’ll tell you.
What's the difference between highlights and balayage?
Foil highlights give precise, uniform brightness with more lift; balayage is hand-painted for a softer, lower-maintenance grow-out. Different looks — we’ll help you choose, or combine them.
Can I get highlights over previously colored hair?
Usually yes, but it depends on what’s already on your hair. Box dye and dark previous color can complicate lifting. This is exactly what the consultation is for — we’ll look and give you a straight answer.
My highlights look brassy — can you fix that?
Yes. Brassiness is usually a toning issue, and a gloss or toner corrects it quickly. If it’s more significant, we’ll talk about a color correction.
