Blue, pink, lavender, copper, teal, or something nobody’s named yet. Fashion color is any shade outside the natural spectrum, and it’s the most creative work we do.
It’s also the most technical. Vivid color only looks vivid on a pale enough canvas, which means most fashion color starts with pre-lightening. How light we need to go depends on the shade you want — pastels need a nearly white base, deep jewel tones are more forgiving. Getting that lightening right, safely, is most of the job.
Pricing varies more on this service than any other, because the lightening required differs enormously between clients. Long dark hair going pastel is a very different job from adding a pink panel to already-blonde hair. The consultation gives you a real number.
Fashion colors fade. Fast. That’s chemistry, not a flaw in the work — most vivid pigments are direct dyes that coat the hair rather than penetrating it, so they wash out with every shampoo. Expect four to eight weeks of good vibrancy, less for pastels. Keeping them looking good means cool water, sulfate-free shampoo, washing less often than you’d like, and often a color-depositing conditioner at home to top up between visits. We’ll send you out knowing exactly what to use.

For true vivid color, almost always. Fashion pigments are translucent — they show up as intended only on a light base. Deep shades on dark hair without lifting will read as a subtle tint at best.
